Central Asia is a landlocked region at the heart of the Eurasian continent, bordered by Russia to the north, China to the east, Afghanistan and Iran to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the west. The region was historically defined by the Silk Road, the network of trade routes connecting China to the Mediterranean, and its major cities, including Samarkand and Bukhara, were significant centers of Islamic scholarship, architecture, and commerce during the medieval period.
