TEXAS

Texas is the second largest state in the United States by both area and population, and its history as an independent republic from 1836 to 1845 before annexation by the United States gives it a political and cultural identity distinct from most other states. Its visitor highlights range from Big Bend National Park, one of the most remote and least visited parks in the lower 48 states, to the San Antonio Missions, a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving the most complete collection of Spanish frontier mission architecture in North America, and the Johnson Space Center in Houston, the command center for all American human spaceflight since 1965.
