HONG KONG

Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China situated on the southeastern coast of the Chinese mainland, consisting of Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories, and more than 200 smaller islands. It was a British colony from 1842 until 1997, when sovereignty was transferred to China under a “one country, two systems” framework that was intended to preserve its distinct legal and economic structure for 50 years following handover.
