Austria is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. It was the center of the Habsburg Empire, one of the longest-lasting dynasties in European history, which at its peak controlled much of Central Europe, and its capital Vienna served as one of the continent’s most significant political and cultural capitals for several centuries, particularly during the 18th and 19th centuries when it was a dominant center of classical music, philosophy, and the arts.
