LATVIA

Latvia is a Baltic country in Northern Europe bordered by Estonia, Russia, Belarus, and Lithuania, with a western coastline along the Baltic Sea. Like Estonia and Lithuania, it was incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1940 and regained independence in 1991, and its capital Riga contains one of the largest collections of Art Nouveau architecture in Europe, a concentrated legacy of the city’s rapid economic development at the turn of the 20th century.
