KYRGYZSTAN

Kyrgyzstan is a small, mountainous landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. More than 90 percent of its territory sits above 1,500 meters in elevation, with the Tian Shan mountain range covering much of the country, and it has maintained a stronger nomadic cultural tradition than most of its Central Asian neighbors, reflected in its oral literature, horsemanship practices, and the continued use of the yurt as a cultural symbol.
