MAINE

Maine has the longest coastline of any state on the Atlantic seaboard when its inlets, bays, and island shores are measured, a geography that has defined its economy and character for centuries through fishing, shipbuilding, and, more recently, tourism. Acadia National Park, situated largely on Mount Desert Island, was the first national park established east of the Mississippi River and protects a stretch of rocky coastline, granite peaks, and boreal forest that draws more than three million visitors annually.
