DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with Haiti, and is the second largest country in the Caribbean by both area and population. Santo Domingo, its capital, is home to the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the Americas and contains the first cathedral, university, and hospital established in the Western Hemisphere.
