ALBANIA

Albania is a small country on the western Balkan Peninsula, bordered by Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Greece, with coastline along the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. It was one of the most isolated countries in the world during its communist period from 1944 to 1992, when it maintained a policy of total self-reliance and severed diplomatic relations with virtually every other nation, and its capital Tirana contains significant archaeological evidence of Illyrian, Greek, and Roman settlement predating the modern Albanian state by millennia.
