MYANMAR

Myanmar is the largest country in mainland Southeast Asia by area, bordered by China, Laos, Thailand, Bangladesh, and India, with coastline along the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. It was known internationally as Burma until 1989 and contains more than 130 distinct ethnic groups, a diversity that has been a central factor in its prolonged internal conflicts since independence from Britain in 1948.
