WYOMING

Wyoming contains Yellowstone, the first national park established anywhere in the world, designated in 1872, which sits atop one of the largest active volcanic systems on earth and contains more geothermal features than any other place on the planet, including the majority of the world’s geysers. Grand Teton National Park immediately to the south offers some of the most dramatically vertical mountain scenery in the Rocky Mountains, and the state’s relative lack of population, the lowest of any US state, means that its wilderness areas remain among the least crowded in the country.
