VIRGINIA

Virginia was the site of the first permanent English settlement in North America at Jamestown in 1607 and went on to produce eight US presidents, more than any state other than Ohio, including four of the first five. Its historical attractions range from Colonial Williamsburg, the largest living history museum in the United States, to the Civil War battlefields surrounding Richmond, the Shenandoah National Park along the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Arlington National Cemetery across the Potomac from Washington DC.
