MISSOURI

Missouri was the departure point for the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804 and the beginning of the Oregon, Santa Fe, and California Trails, making St. Louis one of the most historically significant gateway cities in American westward expansion, a history commemorated by the 630-foot Gateway Arch, the tallest man-made monument in the United States. The state also contains the Mark Twain Boyhood Home in Hannibal, the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, and the remarkably preserved 19th century brewing heritage of St. Louis.
