MASSACHUSETTS

Massachusetts was the landing point of the Mayflower in 1620, the site of the first battles of the American Revolutionary War at Lexington and Concord, and the intellectual center of the abolitionist movement a century later, giving it a concentration of foundational American history difficult to match in any other state. Its visitor highlights range from the Freedom Trail in Boston and the Plimoth Patuxent living history museum to the whaling history of New Bedford, the literary legacy of Concord, and the Cape Cod National Seashore.
