SAMOA
Samoa is a Polynesian island nation in the central southern Pacific Ocean, consisting of two main islands, Upolu and Savai’i, and several smaller islands. It was administered by New Zealand under a League of Nations mandate following World War I and became the first Pacific island nation to gain independence in the 20th century, doing so in 1962. It shares the Samoan archipelago with American Samoa to the east, and the two territories, despite their geographic proximity and cultural similarities, operate under entirely separate political systems.
