SOLOMON ISLANDS
The Solomon Islands is an archipelago nation in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, situated northeast of Australia and east of Papua New Guinea, consisting of six major islands and more than 900 smaller islands and atolls. It was the site of some of the most intense naval and land combat of the Pacific theater of World War II, most notably the six-month Guadalcanal Campaign of 1942 to 1943, which marked a significant turning point in the conflict between the United States and Japan.
