WALES

Wales occupies a peninsula on the western side of the island of Great Britain, bordered by England to the east and the Irish Sea on its remaining three sides. It was formally incorporated into the English legal and administrative system under the Laws in Wales Acts of 1535 and 1542 and retains one of the oldest living languages in Europe, Welsh, which remains an official language alongside English and is spoken by roughly 20 percent of the population as a first or second language.
