WASHINGTON

Washington State contains two of the most ecologically distinct national parks in the United States: Olympic National Park, which encompasses temperate rainforest, alpine meadows, and a rugged Pacific coastline within a single park boundary, and North Cascades National Park, one of the most glaciated areas in the contiguous United States. Mount Rainier, a glaciated stratovolcano rising 14,411 feet above the surrounding landscape, is considered one of the most potentially dangerous volcanoes in the world due to its proximity to the Seattle metropolitan area.
