GEORGIA

Georgia contains one of the most ecologically unusual landscapes in the eastern United States in the Okefenokee Swamp, one of the largest intact freshwater ecosystems in North America, as well as the Blue Ridge Mountains in its northern reaches and a long Atlantic coastline studded with barrier islands. Its capital Atlanta was a central city of the American civil rights movement, with the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site preserving the neighborhood where King was born, and the state’s antebellum architecture and Civil War history draw significant visitor interest across its interior.
