Middle Africa spans the broad central belt of the continent, from the Atlantic coast in the west to the western reaches of the East African Rift in the east. The region is dominated by the Congo Basin, the world’s second largest tropical rainforest, and is crossed by some of Africa’s major river systems, including the Congo and the Ubangi.
