Jordan is a country in Western Asia bordered by Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Israel, with a short coastline on the Red Sea at the Gulf of Aqaba. It contains the ancient Nabataean city of Petra, carved into rose-red sandstone cliffs and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the Dead Sea on its western border with Israel, the lowest point on the earth’s surface at approximately 430 meters below sea level.
