BHUTAN

Bhutan is a small landlocked kingdom in the eastern Himalayas, bordered by China to the north and India to the south, east, and west. It was largely closed to foreign visitors until the 1970s and continues to regulate tourism through a minimum daily expenditure requirement, a policy designed to limit the volume of visitors and preserve its cultural and environmental integrity. It is the only country in the world to measure national progress partly through a Gross National Happiness index rather than GDP alone.
