In a top ten list of the best US states to visit, Ohio rarely comes near the top. In fact, it’s quite common for people to belittle the state and what it offers, and there’ve been plenty of jokes passed around on social media about spending time in Ohio!

But if you’ve never been to Ohio or only passed through the state, should it make your travel plans for next year? Well, we think it deserves some consideration! Here are just a few reasons why.

If you’re a sports fan, Ohio has it all

As the home of Ohio State University, any sports fan will know that this college turns out some incredible athletes and strong teams. In football, hockey, and swimming alike, Ohio has often led the way with its alums.

And then we come to Ohio Stadium itself. Home to the Buckeyes, the stadium is one of the most popular sports arenas in the whole country. Anyone who keeps up with the NFL will feel the exhilaration when sitting in the stands!

The state has preserved a lot of history

Ohio is one of the best states in the US for witnessing the past up close and personal. It has preserved a lot of original (or near original) architecture, and ultra-modernization has been slower going across the land.

There are also a lot of incredible museums in Ohio! No matter which city you end up in, you can pack your itinerary with great galleries and educational enrichment. Cleveland, in particular, is a fantastic city to visit if you’re interested in history more than anything else.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Great Lakes Science Center, the Museum of Natural History—there’s a lot on offer. If you check out hotels near Cleveland Museum of Natural History, you’ll also be able to access a lot of these cultural centers without having to trek too far. Book a room and spend your time soaking up everything you could ever want to know!

There are plenty of great places to eat

Ohio has a strong cuisine scene—something a lot of people overlook in favor of “bland Midwestern food” jokes. But when the time comes for lunch or dinner when you’re visiting the state, you won’t have to look far for a great dining experience.

Plenty of different cuisines and tastes have all been poured into the stewpot of Ohio food, and you can try some of the best Asian and Mediterranean dishes when you’re in the area. There of course are also amazing American dishes on offer, so if you want to try out some local delicacies or indulge in the American palette, you’ve come to the right place.

So, should Ohio be on your travel itinerary for next year? You’d be missing out on a lot of great things if not!
