FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA
The Federated States of Micronesia is a Pacific island nation consisting of more than 600 islands grouped into four states: Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae, spread across the western Pacific Ocean north of Papua New Guinea. It was administered by the United States as part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands following World War II and entered into a Compact of Free Association with the United States in 1986, an arrangement that grants its citizens the right to live and work in the United States in exchange for American control over defense matters.
