Iraq is a country in Western Asia bordered by Turkey, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Syria, with a narrow outlet to the Persian Gulf. The territory between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, historically known as Mesopotamia, is widely regarded as the cradle of civilization, where some of the world’s earliest cities, writing systems, and legal codes originated more than 5,000 years ago.
