CYPRUS
Cyprus is a Mediterranean island nation situated south of Turkey, west of Syria and Lebanon, and northwest of Israel. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean by area and has been divided since 1974, when Turkish military intervention following a Greek-backed coup resulted in the establishment of a separate administration in the northern third of the island, a situation that remains unresolved and represents one of the longest-standing territorial disputes in Europe and the wider region.
