AZERBAIJAN

Azerbaijan is a country in the South Caucasus bordered by Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, and the Caspian Sea, with a separate exclave, Nakhchivan, bordered by Turkey, Iran, and Armenia. It was one of the world’s earliest centers of oil production, with commercial drilling near Baku predating the more widely cited Pennsylvania oil boom of 1859, and the Caspian Basin remains a significant source of petroleum and natural gas.
