DELAWARE

Delaware was the first state to ratify the United States Constitution in 1787, earning it the nickname “The First State,” and its small size belies a significant role in American legal and corporate history, with more than half of all publicly traded companies in the United States incorporated there due to its business-friendly legal framework. Its visitor highlights include the Winterthur Museum, housing one of the foremost collections of American decorative arts, and the preserved colonial-era streetscapes of New Castle, one of the best-maintained 18th century towns on the eastern seaboard.
