CONNECTICUT

Connecticut is the third smallest state in the United States but carries a disproportionate share of early American history, having been one of the original thirteen colonies and home to the oldest continuously published newspaper in the country, the Hartford Courant, founded in 1764. Its Mystic Seaport Museum contains the most significant collection of maritime history in the United States, and the state’s coastal towns, Revolutionary War-era architecture, and proximity to both Boston and New York have kept it firmly on the map for visitors interested in early American culture.
