Curaçao is an island country in the southern Caribbean, situated roughly 65 kilometers off the coast of Venezuela, and forms part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Its capital, Willemstad, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its well-preserved Dutch colonial architecture, and the island served as a major hub in the transatlantic slave trade during the 17th and 18th centuries.
