SAN MARINO
San Marino is a landlocked microstate entirely surrounded by Italy, situated on the slopes of Mount Titano in the Apennine Mountains near the Adriatic coast. It claims to be the world’s oldest republic, with a founding date traditionally given as 301 CE, and its historic center and Mount Titano have been jointly designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of only three countries in the world to be entirely surrounded by a single other country, alongside Vatican City and Lesotho.
