March Madness! Adventures in NCAA Tournament Travel

So, here’s a surprise confession: I’m an incredible nerd.

I played saxophone for and conducted the George Washington University’s Colonial Brass band during college. I absolutely fell in love with college basketball, and for four years, I had the amazing opportunity to travel all over the United States on the most amazing road trips ever–with NCAA tournament travel.

NCAA Tournament Travel!

When college basketball teams go to tournaments, their cheer teams and bands travel with them. For NCAAs tournament travel, bands can’t have more than 30 members, so we had to split ours up for each trip. It was a hugely competitive process to see who would go where—usually men’s trips were the most coveted, since they’re sold out and televised. While I was in university though, it completely flipped around—our girls ROCKED. Our men’s team…not so much.

Over four years, I visited Philly, Cincinnati, Greensboro, Dallas, Atlantic City, Los Angeles, Virginia Beach, and San Francisco. Writing about each would take up far too much space, so I’ll just post pictures—I hope they’ll convey a bit better than I can how amazing it was to travel for four years to support GW basketball. Enjoy!
